Croatia: President of Montenegro at the Ceremony in Zagreb
President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović attended the ceremony in Zagreb, which began around 23h at the Ban Jelačić Square on the occasion of CroatiaÈs accession to the EU.

The ceremony gathered thousands of citizens and it was attended by around 170 foreign officials, 15 Heads of State and 13 Prime Ministers.

In the morning, President Josipović arranged a working breakfast for the Heads of State of South-East Europe who attended the ceremony.

The working breakfast was a joint initiative of Presidents of Croatia and Slovenia, Ivo Josipović and Borut Pahor, to make the two countries promoters of regional cooperation. The aim is to gather the leaders of the region and high officials of the EU each year.

President Vujanović reiterated that this was a historical event for Croatia and congratulated the citizens of Croatia on the first day of cohabitation with the European Union.

He pointed out that he wished that each new day in the European Union brought about achievement of its most beautiful dream of benefits that the European Union would provide for Croatia.

"This is undoubtedly a historic event for Croatia but an important event for the European Union, as the European Union indicated to its intention to continue the policy of enlargement and that it did not close its doors to the Western Balkans. In relation to Montenegro, we experience it as a good sign that two new chapters of negotiations will be open as we are now the only country that conducts the accession negotiation process with the EU", said the President.

He expressed his belief that integration of Montenegro would be strongly promoted by its friends such as Slovenia and Croatia. He thanked for the initiative of Presidents Josipović and Pahor that, in the framework of this informal form with the participation of highest representatives of the European Union states and representatives from Brussels, the Commission, the Council and the Parliament, we have informal meetings where we would discuss these topics mentioned by the President Josipović. The first topic - the enlargement process and its dynamics, the second – regional projects and third topic - open issues of the Western Balkans region.

He also expressed satisfaction over the new occasion to meet in this composition with the presence of high officials from the European Union and in particular the EU Member States, hoping that these meetings will be effective and will bring a profit to all countries from the South-East Europe region.
