Brussels, President Vujanović with the President of European Parliament
President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović met today in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

The President expressed his pleasure with the opportunity to meet with the President of the European Parliament and said that he had an open, friendly and constructive meeting, at which he took the opportunity to express his gratefulness to the European Parliament for the support to the enlargement process of the European Union and for all it did for Montenegro for the purpose of achievement of its strategic goal.

The President exchanged views with Schulz about many issues, on which occasion the President of the European Parliament said that Montenegro was a reliable partner of the European Union. He reiterated the strong intention of Montenegro to continue to be a reliable partner not only to the European Union but also to the region.

“Montenegro participates in many regional organizations and initiatives which allow us to make our contribution to resolution of many issues. In this context, role of the European Union is very important for us, as well as the role of the European Parliament. It is my great pleasure to be here, thank you once again for your hospitality and for all that European Parliament has been doing for Montenegro. In addition, thank you for your personal contribution, President Schulz”, said the President.

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz welcomed the President Vujanović in the European Parliament.

Schulz pointed out that their discussions were very constructive, friendly and stated in an optimistic spirit, “President Vujanović has already met with the President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy, now he is in the European Parliament and he is going to have meetings also in the European Commission. We spoke about the forthcoming opening of Chapters 23 and 24. We discussed the obstacles and challenges, necessary reforms in the field of economy and judiciary, media freedom, rule of law and all other issues related to the requirements of the European Union.
We both stated joint interest in Montenegro’s EU accession as soon as possible and interest of the EU not to stop enlargement process.

In addition, we agreed that the enlargement process must be followed by the necessary reforms not only in the candidate states but also in the EU.

This was a meeting of full mutual understanding and respect towards the expressed views and once again, President Vujanović, thank you for this meeting, which was very encouraging”, said at the end the President of European Parliament Martin Schulz.

Head of Montenegro’s Mission to the EU Ivan Leković was also present at the meeting.
