With regard to the great interest of media in relation to the time schedule for the local elections, the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, informs the public of the following:

Legal conditions for scheduling the elections in the Capital and municipalities, in which they have to be held, have been met even before adoption of a set of laws on amendments to the electoral legislation. The President assessed that amendments to this legislation should be waited because the elections would otherwise be held according to the regulations applicable on the day of calling the elections. Taking into account the time of constitution of the Capital and Municipalitiesí Assembly, in which the elections will be called, the last non-working days for holding elections are May 24th and 25th this year. Accordingly, the last days to call the elections are March 24th and 25th this year. The President will wait until March 24th or 25th to see whether the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Election of Councillors and Members of Parliament would be adopted, following which he will call the elections. If this law is, possibly, adopted and comes into force prior to these dates, the President would call the elections earlier, as he deems it correct to leave to all the participants in the elections a period longer than sixty days for the campaign, which is the shortest deadline from scheduling to holding the elections.
