Cetinje, President of Malta in State Visit to Montenegro |
President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović received today in Cetinje with full state and military honors the President of the Republic of Malta George Abela.
Presidents Vujanović and Abela gave media statements after the bilateral meeting.
President expressed his satisfaction over the first state visit by the President of Malta to Montenegro at the press conference. This visit followed a number of eventful state-level visits and high quality visit experience and it strongly confirms the closeness of the two countries which are geographically, historically, demographically and economically very similar, the President said. He pointed out that Montenegro and Malta concluded numerous interstate arrangements which should encourage and facilitate the communication between the citizens and make joint economic cooperation excellent. During the visit of the President of Malta, highly important agreements will be signed which will give further encouragement to our two states’ closeness. Among them are Agreement on cooperation in fight against drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism, Agreement on cooperation in tourism, Agreement on promotion in the field of diplomacy, Agreement on cooperation between the two Chambers of Commerce which will promote joint economic cooperation.
President Vujanović thanked the President and the Government of Malta for strong contribution they made in order to conclude these Agreements as well as for a readiness to conclude as soon as possible the agreements which are being negotiated.
An important Business Forum of the two Chambers will be held today. It will encourage economic cooperation between Montenegro and Malta along with participation of companies and businessmen, the President stated. He also added that this is an opportunity to thank the President of Malta for supporting Montenegro on its path towards the European Union and for supporting visa liberalization for the citizens of Montenegro. We talked about regional circumstances and shared our opinions on what is a reality of the Western Balkans. President said that this first state visit of the President of Malta is a historic one and that it makes a significant contribution to the relations between Montenegro and Malta.
President of Malta George Abela stated that a state delegation of Malta and an institutional delegation are here today in Montenegro. He pointed out that Montenegro and Malta are two states which share similar characteristics – they are Mediterranean countries, they have almost identical history and we are committed to each other and to good mutual relations. “The Government of Malta is fully committed to help Montenegro on its way towards the European Union. Both I and my state believe that Western Balkans have their future in the EU. We offered specific help to train your employees who will come to Malta this year in order to help them understand which are the challenges the EU membership brings and what you will be asked for.”, said Abela and added that membership in the EU should depend upon the way the reforms are being implemented in each state that strives for the EU membership. I would like to promote bilateral relations between our two states, because, as President Vujanović said, there are numerous agreements, understandings and protocols which should be signed.
I sincerely hope that by the end of year Montenegro will become a candidate for the membership and that it will be a full member of the European Union in the near future.
A would like to use this opportunity to officially invite your President Vujanović to pay state visit to Malta, president Abela emphasized. more
