On the occasion of his victory in the presidential elections in Montenegro, President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, received today a congratulatory message from Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission.

“I want to congratulate you on your re-election as the President of Montenegro. Opening of accession negotiations in June 2012 was a recognition of progress Montenegro made in the last years and marked a new phase of its relations with the European Union.

Negotiation progress will continue to be determined by the very accomplishments of Montenegro. Strengthening of the rule of law, and especially fight against corruption and organised crime at all levels is of crucial importance. Implementation of constitutional reforms for strengthening independence of judiciary in accordance with recommendations of the Venice Commission remains a second priority.

You will continue to have a crucial role in strengthening of a wide consensus in these political processes.

Podgorica, President Vujanović Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia
President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, received today in Podgorica Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Ivan Mrkić who is on an official visit to Montenegro.

During the talks, President of Montenegro expressed his satisfaction over the intensity and quality of state relations of Montenegro and Serbia as traditionally close states, assessing them to be in the best interest of citizens of the two states and contribution to the regional stability and integration processes. The President recalled the recent official visit of the President of the Republic of Serbia to Montenegro, describing it as very successful and as a confirmation of fullness and closeness of relations of the two countries. Affirming the growth of contractual basis between Montenegro and Serbia, he expressed Montenegro’s readiness for its full implementation, particularly emphasising the need for successful joint approach to combating organised crime and corruption. In the domain of economic relations, the President recalled the mutual willingness to increase cooperation, especially emphasising the need for further investment in railway infrastructure and Port of Bar. He also expressed hope that Serbia will get the date of accession negotiations with the European Union as soon as possible, as well as that an agreement between Belgrade and Prishtina will be reached, which will make a valuable contribution to regional stability and integration processes of the whole region.

Minister Mrkić expressed his pleasure with the cooperation of two states, describing the constancy of close relations as a special quality in the region and expressed readiness for the contribution to its further enlargement. He introduced the President of Montenegro to the content of ongoing talks in Brussels, expressing the hope that Serbia will soon get the negotiation date. Minister Mrkić announced the readiness for cooperation of Montenegro and Serbia in European integration, as well as on the widest scale. more

Podgorica, President Vujanović Receives the Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland
President of Montenegro received today in Podgorica the Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, Ms. Asta Johannesdottir.

During the talks President Vujanović expressed his pleasure over comprehensive state relations of Montenegro and Iceland, pointing out the gratitude of the citizens of Montenegro to Iceland, for being the first country in the world to recognise Montenegro after the referendum in 2006. The President said that there is a wide room for improving cooperation at bilateral and multilateral level, particularly in the field of economy, emphasizing the development priorities and investment capacities of Montenegro. He also introduced the integration priorities of Montenegro, stating the position on European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Ms. Johannesdottir agreed with the need to promote mutual cooperation, pointing out the importance of parliamentary cooperation in the integration processes. She stressed the support of Iceland to Montenegro in European and Euro-Atlantic integration and stated IcelandČs readiness to continue to work closely with Montenegro on a broad scale. more
