President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, congratulated the Montenegrin Olympians at the Republic Square in Podgorica, where the solemn welcoming was held.

“I stand here to express gratitude to all our Olympians and to tell them that we are proud of them all. We are proud of the athletes in individual sports, whom there were twice as much as in Beijing. We expect that there will be even more of them in Brazil. Why would not our glider Milivoj Dukić win a medal, or why would not Danijel Furtula win a medal, or why would not destiny award a deserved medal to Srđan Mrvaljević. Great respect goes to the great water-polo players. They gathered us here in this square after the golden medal from the European championship in Spain and recently silver one from the Netherlands, they made it into the semi-finals at the two Olympic Games, and I am certain that in the next ones they will win a medal. And the greatest pride, gratefulness and admiration go to our women’s handball team, who won the silver which shines as gold, and entered their names into the history of Montenegro in golden letters. They brought us a lot of joy. We are proud of their emotion, commitment and patriotism. We thank them for bringing glory to our handball, to the Montenegrin sport and Montenegro. Our women handball players stepped onto the Olympic throne and will stay thereon, and as their coach Dragan Adžić said, and I say it now, the God will bestow new Olympic medals on Montenegro. more
