Vujanović Attends Montenegrin Flag Raising in Sochi
The Winter Olympics is a new opportunity for the promotion of Montenegro

SOCHI: The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović attended today the Montenegrin flag raising ceremony in the Olympic mountain village in Sochi. The ceremony of raising our flag was also attended by the president of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee Dušan Simonović, president of the Ski Association Vesna Medenica and director of the Directorate for Sport Igor Vušurović. President Vujanović did not hide his satisfaction with participation of Montenegro in the Winter Olympic Games; he raised the spirits of our Olympians and highlighted the power of Olympism voicing that our athletes are the best ambassadors of our country. more

PRESS RELEASE
After the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović negated that he stated to the Russian Agency “ITAR-TASS” in an interview that Russian boats should be allowed to dock in the Port of Bar, and that this question was not raised nor commented, and that he shared the Government of Montenegro’s position in that relation, as well as that he informed the Embassy of Russian Federation in Podgorica about inaccuracy of this interview, this agency removed the alleged part of interview from its website.

The Cabinet emphasizes professionalism and responsibility of this agency after the President’s reaction.

PRESS RELEASE
With regard to the disinformation announced at the website of “ITAR-TASS” that President of Montenegro stated in an interview to this Agency that Russian boats should be allowed to dock in the Port of Bar, the President’s PR Office informs that this issue was not raised at all in this interview. Anyway, the President Vujanović fully shares the same position communicated by the Government of Montenegro.

Cabinet of the President of Montenegro also communicated the same information to the Embassy of Russian Federation to Montenegro in Podgorica. more

Podgorica, President Vujanović received the Minister for Europe at the Foreign Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović received today David Lidington, Minister for Europe at the Foreign Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The President emphasized his high respect for the assistance of Great Britain to Montenegro in our European and Euro-Atlantic integration, expecting that the assistance would continue and intensify. He assessed that this was an important year for Montenegro as in the process of European integration we should be intensely committed to the opened chapters in order to be given an opportunity for new chapters of European integration.

The President expressed his expectation that the next NATO Summit in the Great Britain will be the enlargement Summit and that Montenegro would then receive an invitation for membership. In that sense, he announced commitment of Montenegro to intensify activities in terms of public opinion’s support, expecting understanding of the overall benefits of this integration.

He stated his satisfaction over mutual willingness and activities for promotion of economic relations between Montenegro and Great Britain, pointing out his maximum positive evaluation of the Azerbaijan Gas Pipeline project, which in its Adriatic-Ionian segment passes through Montenegro, and which also involves British Petroleum as a significant partner.

The Minster Lidington pointed out his respect for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration achievements of Montenegro, emphasizing readiness of Great Britain to support Montenegro in this strategic integration to the maximum extent.

In addition, he also expressed readiness to provide experts’ assistance to Montenegro, assessing that standards of this integration would be achieved faster in that way.

The Minister Lidington agreed with the assessment that economic cooperation should be expanded and that tourism development in Montenegro was our great chance. In that respect, he assessed that efforts should be made to promote tourism in the north of Montenegro as there was great interest of tourists from Great Britain. more

Defense and Security Council Holds Session
The session of the Defense and Security Council was held today in Podgorica. The session was chaired by the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, and attended by the members of the Council, the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapić and the Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanović.

Upon invitation, the session of the Council was also attended by the Minister of Interior, Raško Konjević, MA, Director of the National Security Agency, Boro Vučinić, MA, Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro Vice Admiral Dragan Samardžić and National Coordinator for NATO, Nebojša Kaludjerović.

The Council considered the Information on implementation of the National Security Strategy through fulfilling the key obligations to receive the invitation to join NATO.

The Council concluded that the Euro-Atlantic integration remains the most important national foreign policy priority in 2014.

Towards the upcoming NATO Summit in Wales, Great Britain, in September this year, at which the issue of the Alliance’s enlargement will be possibly considered, the Council concluded that Montenegro must be committed to fulfilling its obligations in order to be ready to accept the invitation. To this regard, the Council supported the past activities of the Government and the Council towards the NATO membership in all four key reform areas, with emphasis on further intensification of the reforms in the sectors of security and the rule of law, as well as in the area of strengthening the public dialogue aimed at increasing the support for NATO integration.

The Council considered the Report on participation of the members of the Army of Montenegro in international forces, peacekeeping missions and other activities abroad in 2013 and concluded that the participation in international forces contributed considerably to enhancing international reputation of Montenegro, improving the process of Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as strengthening capabilities of the Army of Montenegro.

The Council also considered the Report on participation of the members of the Army of Montenegro in exercises abroad in 2013 and concluded that participation in exercises abroad contributed to raise the level of capabilities of the Army and achieve these partnership goals.

The Council also considered other issues within its competence. more

Podgorica, President Vujanović Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania
The President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Ditmir Bushati.

The President expressed his pleasure over comprehensive bilateral relations between the two countries, with belief that the economic cooperation could be improved using common natural and economic resources.

The President stressed the importance of the Euro-Atlantic integration for Montenegro, as well as our willingness to cooperate in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration.
He emphasized the importance of the role of the minorities which are a strong bridge of cooperation between our two countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati expressed his respect for integration achievements of Montenegro and its role in the region. He agreed with the President that there is vast room for economic cooperation in the regional projects too, such as the Adriatic-Ionian highway and Adriatic-Ionian Gas Pipeline whose significance for economic cooperation in the region is of great importance. more

Message of Congratulations from President Vujanović
The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović extended his congratulations to the President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić on the occasion of opening the accession negotiations between Serbia and the EU.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the citizens of Serbia and to you personally on the start of accession negotiations of Serbia with the European Union.

The decision of the European Union is a confirmation of the reform efforts and successes of Serbia in achieving European standards. It is of paramount importance for the European future of Serbia and prosperity of its citizens.

The European integration affirms and strengthens the stability and development of the region. They are, therefore, of interest to each individual state and the region as a whole. The opening of the accession negotiations with the EU is, therefore, of the particular regional importance and value.

The process of the European integration in the area of our close bilateral relations creates new opportunities for cooperation and mutual support. President Vujanović Congratulates Journalists on their Day
The President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović congratulated all journalists and representatives of public word on 23 January – Journalists’ Day of Montenegro.

I extend my sincere congratulations on the Journalist’s Day and wishes that the independence of journalistic word and professional responsibility of the media be a guarantee of democratic society on a democratic and European path of Montenegro.

As the main task of media is to promote truth, freedom, justice and democracy, no matter how differently they interpret these important values, so the task of the journalists who do their job honorably and responsibly is to impose, with their work and activities, the criteria and qualities of professional ethics on the media scene.

The tradition of the Montenegrin journalism and spoken words in Montenegro further oblige the journalists to make the media scene an area of only noble aspirations for truth and democracy, which will have the support of all citizens.

The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, pursuant to Article 84 paragraph 4 of the Law on State Prosecutor’s office, proclaimed the Prosecutorial Council, stating that all legal requirements have been met to proclaim the members elected by the Parliament of Montenegro, two members elected by the Conference of state prosecutors and one member appointed by the Minister of Justice as the members of this Council, noting that the president of this Council is ex officio the acting Chief State Prosecutor.

The President will proclaim the remaining three members of the Prosecutorial Council when the Conference of state prosecutors complies with the provision of Article 85 paragraph 2 of the Law on State Prosecutor’s office which provides that the members of this Council may be re-elected upon expiry of four years from the termination of previous mandate in this Council. more

Podgorica, President Vujanović Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria
The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Kristian Vigenin and expressed his appreciation for the assistance of Bulgaria provided to Montenegro in European and Euro-Atlantic integration, expecting that the Memorandum of cooperation, which will be signed today, will further enhance the effects of this support.

The President described the bilateral relations between Montenegro and Bulgaria as comprehensive and intensive stating that the two friendly countries should seize the broad opportunities of the cooperation in the sphere of economy. In this regard, he emphasized his conviction that the cooperation between the two countries will be intensified.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Vigenin underlined that Montenegro is a good role model of the region, believing that it will successfully continue its integration processes, as well as that it will be constructive partner in relation to the key issues for the regional cooperation.

Minister Vigenin emphasized the determination of Bulgaria to support European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro and promotion of bilateral relations in the economic sphere. more

PRESS RELEASE
In the procedure of declaration of the Prosecutorial Council, by application of Article 84 Para 4 of the Law on State Prosecutor’s Office and after obtaining the Ministry of Justice’s opinion, the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović concluded that legal conditions have not been met for declaration of this Council, as ban on consecutive re-election regulated by Article 85 of this Law was violated on the occasion of election of the Council members from among state prosecutors.

The President informed the Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Veselin Vučković about it, expecting that re-election would take place at the Prosecutors Conference, respecting this legal obligation. more

President of Montenegro presented a Medal of Bravery to Milutin Šoć
The President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović presented a Medal of Bravery to Milutin Šoć, national kayak team member of Montenegro and our best kayaker, who is a member of KC Svetionik from Podgorica. At the initiative of the Mayor of Podgorica Miomir Mugoša, President assessed that Milutin Šoć did the act of personal courage, which is extraordinary, as with his sacrifice, with a risk of injury, he brought under his control two persons, who attacked an old woman and took her wallet by force using her weakness, and handed them over to the police.

Such an act of bravery and sacrifice is an example which deserves every respect; therefore the President presented Šoć with a Medal of Bravery with pleasure and appreciation. more
